I do not blame LeBron James for leaving Cleveland. There is no player out there who can win a championship on their own, not even the King. Cleveland obviously did not give him any help in personnel. They tried, but an average PG (Mo), washed up big man (Shaq/Wallace), or slightly special PF (Jamison) does not really count. I would not stay either, no matter how close to home it was. He would be sitting there with bad knees and no title at the end of his next contract, just like he said.
That being said, he did not pick the best place for LeBron James. Tell me a starting 5 of Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, and LEBRON JAMES does not look scary. That is probably the best 5 in the league, and maybe along the road could even challenge for the best 5 in Bulls history. And that's a big deal if I've ever heard one. LeBron would have an awesome point guard, unstoppable front court, and a powerful weapon to swing out to. He would also be able to play HIS game. He would end up with massive amounts of championship rings and statistics.
Instead, he went to play pickup with his friends in Miami. Especially now that Beasley is gone, there is not much to work with. Yes 60% of their starters are top players in the game, but two of the three best players in the game will not be able to make the most of what they have to offer. In Chicago, everyone could bring what they offer and dominate. In Miami, everyone is going to have to adjust, so that they can try and dominate. I have no doubt that the Heat will be rediculous for several years, but I also think the king made this decision because he was afraid of the Heat as well.
The Heat already got Wade and Bosh, and had enough money to make another splash this offseason. If James went to the Bulls, the Heat would be able to create a supporting cast around Wade/Bosh that would be too formidable for James' taste. He was afraid that if he did not go to the Heat, he would not be able to beat them. LeBron's Heat can beat the Bulls without James, but could LeBron's Bulls beat the Heat? I think he was saving his ass. Maybe this is a bold statement, but maybe it is true. Chicago had a huge market to offer, with the supporting cast sitting there waiting for him. The 3-headed monster of the Heat will be great, but we can only speculate what could have been, and what should have been.
